Greetings, puppet-lovers! Yippee Skippy Puppet Theater offers engaging, live puppet theater experiences for all ages. Our best-selling shows are Silly Storybook for toddlers to age 6, Fractured Fables for ages 6-11, and The Frog Prince and Friends, an entertaining extravaganza for the whole family. We also offer customized shows and puppet comedy walk-abouts for Health Care and Institutional settings of every description.
Yippee Skippy Puppet Theater was founded in 2006 by puppeteer and puppetmaker Rebecca Migdal, who was joined in 2008 by children’s theater actor and musician Andy Laties. In January, 2020 the troupe welcomed puppeteer and musician Alyssa Lou Allen.
In addition to offering improvised comedy versions of familiar folk and fairy tales for all ages, we specialize in customized puppet comedy for any occasion, with live music and face painting as available options.
Yippee Skippy Puppet Theater is currently the Puppet Theater in Residence at Book & Puppet Co. and has appeared in schools, churches, art galleries, parks, community centers, bookstores, and private events throughout the New York City and Philadelphia metro areas and beyond.
Yippee Skippy Puppet Theater is fully insured and certified to work with children in the State of Pennsylvania. We keep up-to-date child welfare and criminal clearances on file for all members.
Rebecca Migdal is a performance artist, puppetmaker and comics journalist, and the founding Director of Yippee Skippy Puppet Theater. She has worked as a teaching artist in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. Rebecca is a 1989 Alum of the Franklin Furnace Fund for Performance Emerging Artist Grant (sharing the honor that year with the Blue Man Group.) She was a Regents Scholar at UC, Santa Cruz earning a BA in Studio Art (1982.) She also took a Masters in Communications (Journalism) at NYIT (2005) and an MFA in English and Creative Writing (Script Writing) at SUNY, Stony Brook (2008.) Rebecca Migdal is a Jungian scholar and Certified Dream Tender, and is currently studying for a PhD in Depth Psychology.
Andy Laties has performed in hundreds of schools–in 25 states–as a musician and children’s theater actor with Yippee Skippy Puppet Theatre and Child’s Play Touring Theatre. A winner of the Women’s National Book Association’s Pannell Award for bringing children and books together, Andy has served as house storyteller for several bookstores he has owned and managed: The Children’s Bookstore in Chicago, Bank Street Bookstore in New York City, and Book & Puppet Company in Easton, Pennsylvania.
Andy co-founded the Yale Summer Children’s Theater, and studied comic improvisation with Players Workshop of Second City. Andy plays dozens of musical instruments that he acquired during his world travels.
Alyssa Lou Allen is an Easton native who graduated from Lycoming College with a degree in Psychology. After returning to her hometown, she worked as a freelance musician and cartoonist, and served as Touchstone Theatre’s 2018-2019 apprentice. She currently performs in multiple music groups, and works as a teaching artist and freelance designer in the Lehigh Valley.
